Defense attorney Jason Miles submitted a motion before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland to recuse himself from 15-year-old murder suspect Alex’Xander Marasa’s case on Aug. 29, noting upcoming unavailability for trial due to surgery. Miles requested a postponement in Marasa’s case pending appointment of new counsel.

Marasa is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime and robbery in connection to a Jan. 12 fatal shooting incident that occurred at a McDonald’s located on the 4400 block of Reisterstown Road. The teenager is accused of shooting Jamal Anthony Davis, a 38-year-old security guard employed by the restaurant, following a physical altercation that occurred near one of the establishment’s entrances.

The youth is being tried as an adult.

The motion will be transferred to Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer for approval on Sept. 12.
