Teen Charged in ‘Dispute Over a Woman’ Faces Early May Trial

A 19-year-old attempted murder defendant charged with shooting at a man during a dispute over a woman will stand trial in early May after rejecting a plea offer during a Jan. 23 reception court hearing.

Bredin Duran-Duban of Baltimore City is charged with attempted murder, assault and four gun violations for the attack, which unfolded on the 3100 block of McElderry Street on the afternoon of Aug. 20, 2024. He was arrested over a year later on Sept. 8, 2025, after the victim notified police he recognized his assailant in the area of the 400 block of N. Highland Avenue.

Charging documents state Duran-Duban confessed to the shooting upon his arrest, noting he “felt disrespected” by the victim, and that the two had been embroiled in a “dispute over a woman they were both dating.”

During the Jan. 23 reception court hearing, the state offered Duran-Duban a plea on the counts of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony crime of violence that consisted of 25 years, suspending all but 10, the first five to be served without parole. Upon release, Duran-Duban would have been required to serve three years of supervised probation and register as a gun offender.

Defense attorney Mary Patton rejected the deal on behalf of the defendant. Duran-Duban is now set to be tried for four days beginning May 4, with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Catherine Chen presiding.
