Kayla Baize is a college student from Virginia majoring in Legal Studies at Stevenson University. She was drawn to the Baltimore Witness internship after her neighborhood experienced a gun violence incident earlier this year, which sparked her interest in how media coverage can influence public understanding and community response. She looks forward to gaining real-world experience in local journalism, especially in reporting on crime and court proceedings. Kayla hopes to strengthen her writing and research skills while contributing to meaningful work. In the future, she’s interested in a career that combines writing, law, and community advocacy. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching “Crime Watch Daily” and doing hair.
