Baozan Yan is a Computer Science student at the University of Maryland, College Park, based in College Park, MD. His interests span natural language processing, data visualization, and computer/network security, with projects in censorship-resistant networking, evaluating large language models, and building interactive geospatial dashboards.
He is excited to join the American Witness data internship to apply rigorous, transparent data methods to public-interest reporting. He looks forward to cleaning and analyzing real-world justice-system datasets, building reproducible data pipelines, and collaborating with editors and fellow interns to turn complex data into clear, trustworthy stories. His longer-term goal is to build reliable data tools that advance civic accountability.
