The alleged getaway driver in a homicide last February on Belair Road was denied bail by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Anthony F. Vittoria on Jan. 17.
Davon Evans, 22, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of having a handgun in a vehicle and single counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime and conspiracy to firearm use in a felony or violent crime for the murder of Dionte Larry Williams on Feb. 14, 2023.
According to the prosecutor during Wednesday’s bail review, Evans allegedly admitted to driving a 2009 gray Honda Accord to the 1900 block of Belair Road, where three passengers jumped out and shot the victim before being driven away by the defendant.
The three shooters remain unknown, the prosecutor said.
Evans’ defense attorney, Deborah Warner-Dennis, asked for her client to be released on home monitoring but allow him to go to work to continue as a productive member of society while awaiting trial. The defense said it was unfair that her client remain in custody while the three shooters remain at large.
The defense argued Evans is not a danger to society or a flight risk, in that he has no previous record and has cooperated with law enforcement. In addition, she argued, there is no proof Evans had prior knowledge of the crime.
However, the prosecutor countered that Evans was seen removing the vehicle’s license plates in video surveillance footage before the shooting. This act of removing the license plate showed Evans knew a crime was about to be committed, he said.
Judge Vittoria agreed with the prosecution and denied bail.
