Darius Savoy, 27, stood before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland during reception court on May 9, where his upcoming homicide trial was scheduled for four days beginning on Sept. 16.
As previously reported, on April 9, 2024, Savoy pleaded “Nolo Contendere” to one count of first-degree murder, allowing him to accept punishment without admitting nor denying guilt before Judge Althea M. Handy.
Savoy also pleaded not guilty to his remaining counts, which include firearm use in a felony or violent crime, conspiracy to firearm use in a felony or violent crime, two counts of carrying a handgun, and first-degree assault.
According to charging documents, on April 13, 2023, officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 2000 block of West Lexington Street. The police investigation revealed that 30-year-old Allante Alexander and a woman were sitting in his black 2018 Honda Accord when a vehicle pulled up next to them and the occupants inside began shooting.
Alexander was struck multiple times by gunfire causing fatal injuries, while the woman was not harmed. The suspect vehicle then fled westbound on W. Lexington Street.
Prior to the shooting, nearby surveillance footage shows the suspect, allegedly identified as Savoy, getting into a black 2010 Audi Q7, reported stolen two days earlier, with another individual headed to the scene of the crime.
Defense attorney Roya Hannah is slated to represent Savoy during his upcoming September trial.
