On July 28, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays accepted a guilty plea from Shawn Bullock, 23, for murdering five-year-old Nivea Anderson.
Bullock was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in servere physical injury, and child abuse of a minor under 18 in connection to the Nov.15, 2021 incident on the 2800 block of Pelham Avenue.
According to charging documents on November 15, 2021 at approximately 6:22pm, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers arrived at the 2800 block of Pelham Avenue to investigate an unresponsive child. The victim was rushed to John Hopkins Hospital but was declared deceased at 7pm.
An autopsy confirmed multiple injuries both old and recent, including bruises on the left lung and heart, a lacerated liver and kidney, and multiple broken ribs.
During the investigation, one witness said they saw Bullock punching Nivea multiple times in the head and body just a week before the murder. Bullock is the victim’s mother’s boyfriend.
Bullock pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in severe physical injury. According to the offer, his sentence is life suspending all but 30 years, while defense attorney Derrick Hamlin made a counter- offer of life suspending all but 20 years.
Sentencing has been set for Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. A judge has not been specified at this time.
