On Dec. 22, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a trial date for a 24-year-old manslaughter defendant.
Terrance Belton is charged with manslaughter and firearm use in a felony violent crime for the December 2018 murder of 32-year-old Edward Calloway.
At the hearing Friday, defense attorney Christopher O’Meara and the prosecutor agreed to a retrial date of June 11, 2024 after the original conviction was overturned. The trial will last for four days.
Counsel previously agreed to a February trial date. It is unknown what necessitated the change. Similarly, Belton’s housing issues were not brought up in reception court Friday. He was previously in Hagerstown, Maryland but his lawyer was trying to get him transferred closer to Baltimore.
Documents from the District Court of Maryland state that on Dec. 6, 2018, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of South Monroe Street for a shooting. CCTV footage showed Calloway in a physical altercation with Belton’s mother. After that fight, Calloway began walking toward Belton, who allegedly shot him.
