Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a May trial date for Stephen Walker, 38, on April 8. The delay came after the prosecution’s primary witness took vacation and became unavailable for trial. Judge Martin Schreiber II expressed concern that further postponements would violate Walker’s right to speedy trial, as he had already served 120 days at the time of the hearing.

Walker is charged with firearm possession with a prior felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, discharging a firearm in Baltimore City, and illegal possession of ammunition in connection to a Dec. 9, 2024 non-fatal shooting incident that occurred in the Rosemont neighborhood.

According to charging documents, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Normount Court in reference to an aggravated assault. Upon arrival, they saw Walker exit the front door, followed by his girlfriend.

“He has a gun,” she told an officer.

Walker fled approximately 20 feet from the residence before he was apprehended and cuffed. Officers conducted an area canvas and recovered a black Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard .38 revolver with one live round in the chamber, approximately ten feet from the residence. The revolver, bullet, and magazine were submitted to the BPD Evidence Control Unit (ECU) for review.

Walker’s girlfriend testified that at approximately 1:30 am, she and he were engaged in a verbal argument when he grew upset and entered the bathroom. She then heard what she believed was Walker chambering a bullet, approaching, opening the front door, and firing one round.

He reentered the apartment and sat wordlessly on a couch in the living room, holding the gun but not pointing it. At some point, he told her, “Bitch, I’ll kill you in this house.”

She called the police.

Her 15-year-old son, who was also in the house at the time of the incident, told officers he heard the same noises as his mother – a gun being loaded, the front door opening, and a gunshot.

Walker was transported to Sinai Hospital since he appeared to be drunk, then processed at the Central Booking & Intake Facility.

His girlfriend refused to complete a domestic incident report.

Walker’s trial is slated to begin May 28 before Judge Piper F. McKeithen.
