Shooting Defendant Gets 15 Years After Pleading Guilty to Attempted Murder

Henry Allen, 28, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and illegal firearm possession before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton on Dec. 10, accepting a sentence of 30 years, suspending all but 15 years .

Allen was convicted in July 2023 of all nine of his initial charges in connection to a shooting incident that occurred May 31, 2022, outside Westside Grocery on the 1800 block of Edmondson Avenue. He was charged after the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) recovered security footage that captured Allen approaching the victim with a handgun and firing multiple shots.

The conviction was later overturned in July, and on Aug. 15  the Appellate Court of Maryland remanded the case. Retrial proceedings were held in early September, during which counsel agreed on a Dec. 10 trial date. In pleading guilty, Allen declined his right to trial, accepting a sentence instead.

Allen will serve 30 years, suspending all but 15, for the attempted murder charge, as well as five concurrent years for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. Upon completion of his sentence, Allen will be required to serve five years of supervised probation and register with the Maryland Gun Offender Registry.
