Phillip Woods, 37, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland for a reception court hearing on June 12. He is currently facing various charges, including first-degree assault and firearm use in a violent crime.

On March 6, Woods allegedly shot at his ex-girlfriend with a black handgun as she was trying to leave his residence on N. Fulton Street in Harlem Park. After a dispute broke out over cheating accusations, Woods, who was reportedly drunk, was seen yelling out of a window at the victim as she was leaving. He then allegedly shot at her, resulting in the bullet hitting the passenger window of her car.

The state offered a plea of three years for the assault charge, which would run concurrently with 15 years, suspending all but five, for the firearm charge. Per the terms of the deal, Woods would also have to serve three years of probation and  attend domestic violence counseling. Woods did not explicitly accept or reject the offer during the hearing.

The prosecution is currently awaiting projectile analysis from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD).

Woods’ two-day trial is set to begin on Sept. 12 before Judge Hope Tipton.
