Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland postponed the sentencing of an 18-year-old homicide defendant, Nizah Daniels.

The sentencing will now take place before Judge Dana M. Middleton on May 10.

The March 11 request for postponement came from Daniel’s attorney Roland Harris, who appeared in court via Zoom due to personal matters.

Daniels was found guilty on Sept. 25, 2023 for the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Jeremiah Brogden. In addition, he was found guilty on all other charges, including firearm use in a felony violent crime, possession of firearm as a minor and having a handgun on his person.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on Sept. 2, 2022, Daniels allegedly shot Brogden at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School on the 3500 block of Hillen Road in the rear parking lot.

Daniels then fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement and taken into custody. Brodgen was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the altercation between the two individuals is unknown.
