Sentencing in Toone Street Murder Postponed for Impact Statements

Gabriel Gomez-Fiorenza, 28, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and use of a firearm in a crime of violence before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard on Oct. 20.

The prosecution recommended a sentence of 30 years, suspending all but 15 with the first five without the possibility of parole. The sentence will run concurrently with the firearm charge, followed by three years of supervised parole.

The incident occurred on the 3700 block of Toone Street when an argument between Gomez-Fiorenza and his girlfriend Amy Armstrong culminated in a gunshot being fired. After the shooting, Gomez-Fiorenza fled to his parents’ home, where he reportedly held a gun to his own head. His family immediately called 911.

Several family members from both Gomez-Fiorenza’s and Armstrong’s families grew visibly emotional during the proceeding.

Given the emotional weight of the case and the presence of numerous grieving relatives, the prosecutor requested to postpone sentencing until the following day to allow time for the preparation of formal victim impact statements.

Judge Howard granted the request.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 21.
