The trial for a Loyola Northway triple shooting was postponed on Sept. 2 for a second time at the request of defense counsel, as 38-year-old defendant Dominic Pressley’s attorney, Angela Shelton, remains on medical leave. Pressley noted he has not heard from Shelton since May.

Pressley is charged with first-degree murder, two separate counts of attempted first- and second- degree murder and assault, and several firearm violations in connection to a July 20, 2024 triple shooting that occurred on the 2400 block of Loyola Northway. The incident left Alan Grant, 30, dead and two others injured.

Following the postponement request, the formal indictment of charges was sent to Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland for a new trial date.

Judge Copeland stated that no one from the Office of Public Defender had informed her about Shelton’s leave of absence or potential return date. She expressed frustration with the defense’s continued requests for postponement, noting Shelton also required postponements in four other murder trials.

The case was initially postponed in May due to the defense’s request to hire a DNA analyst to testify at trial regarding evidence ecovered by investigators in April. During the Sept. 2 hearing, the prosecution they hadn’t been informed of the defense plan to hire an expert, further angering Judge Copeland.

She ultimately granted the postponement, claiming she had no choice.

Parties are set to reconvene on Sept. 4 before Judge Copeland, with a tentative trial date set for Dec. 5.
