Scheduling Delays Federal Hill Murder, Shooting Trial Until Halloween

The remaining two co-defendants charged with the death of 19-year-old Cameran Holt and injury of a 28-year-old man last October will wait until Halloween to begin selecting a jury following counsel’s decision to push the trial date due to scheduling.

Daeshaun Tyreke Clark and Devontaye Richardson received their Oct. 29 trial date in June when both also agreed to retain their right to a speedy trial. Scheduling conflicts between the prosecution and defense attorneys led to the case’s initial postponement.

On Wednesday, the prosecutor said scheduling was behind the two-day delay. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays, the prosecution and Clark and Richardson’s respective attorneys — Jerry Rodriguez and Daniel Mooney — agreed to return on Oct. 31.

While the co-defendants are both charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, assault and additional weapons charges in connection to the incident on Oct. 27, 2024, Richardson faces a life sentence for Holt’s murder. Further details were revealed during the trial of Alexis Cancel-Soto — a third co-defendant who was convicted of Holt’s death, the second victim’s attempted murder and related firearms charges on Sept. 16.

Cancel-Soto was represented by defense attorney Marci Johnson.

Holt’s friend was among the witnesses to testify during Cancel-Soto’s trial, detailing the moment she realized her friend was unresponsive and then seeing Cancel-Soto with a firearm.

This testimony contradicted Cancel-Soto’s own testimony days later when he said, “I never shot toward Cameran Holt’s car.”

In court documents, homicide investigators from the Baltimore Police Department reported that Richardson got into an argument with the surviving victim in a parking lot on the unit block of W. Hamburg Street. Richardson allegedly got into his Nissan Maxima and drove into the street as the victim drove his purple Dodge Challenger to the intersection of W. Hamburg and S. Hanover streets.

Richardson, alongside the convicted Cancel-Soto, is accused of shooting from behind Holt’s vehicle toward the victim’s Challenger. Clark was later identified as a alleged third shooter who shot at the Challenger while standing beside Holt’s vehicle.

The investigation showed Holt’s vehicle was struck by gunfire from behind.
