Lamont Bethea Johnson, Jr., 38, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and felony firearm use before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong on June 3.

Johnson was initially charged with first-degree murder, felony firearm use, handgun on person, and felony firearm possession in connection to a fatal shooting. The incident occurred Aug. 4, 2023 in the 300 block of S. Calhoun Street, leaving Tiwan Wilson, 22, dead.

Johnson accepted a binding plea deal of 60 years, suspending all but 40, followed by five years of probation. As part of the deal, the prosecution agreed to nolle prosequi, or formally drop, the remainder of Johnson’s charges.

Wilson’s mother, who expressed she wished to share a victim impact statement, requested the sentencing occur on a later date.

Judge Hong granted Wilson’s mother’s request and set Johnson’s sentencing date for Aug. 11. She also informed Johnson that his family would have the opportunity to deliver their own impact statements at the sentencing.
