Jury selection began in the retrial of attempted murder defendant Derrien Gamble March 25 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Levi S. Zaslow.

In another incident Gamble is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm use as a convicted felon and conspiracy to first-degree murder.

Gamble faces 39 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder and assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, reckless endangerment, and multiple conspiracy and firearms charges in connection to a Feb. 4, 2023, shooting on the 1500 block of Medford Road. Gamble was 19-years-old at the time of the incident.

Baltimore Witness previously reported that Gamble and three co-conspirators allegedly fired several rounds at two victims who were exiting a vehicle. Upon arrival, responding Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her right foot and shin, and the other from a gunshot wound to his left flank. Officers recovered .38 caliber 9mm and two .40 caliber casings from the scene.

Officers arrested Gamble ten days after the crime unfolded at an Airbnb accommodation after a victim positively identified an individual said be Gamble in a photo array.

In November 2023, Gamble was partially convicted of illegally possessing a firearm and carrying a loaded handgun. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining charges.

Gamble, who is represented by defense attorney James Sweeting III, is set to resume trial with opening statements on March 27.
