Reception Court Moves Two Attempted Murder Cases Forward

Two attempted murder cases have been set for trial in the coming months following reception court on March 23.

Deaontae Fleming, 36, is set for trial in June. He is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and firearm possession for a non-fatal shooting on Nov. 5, 2025 at the 400 block of East Baltimore Street. Fleming, along with his accomplices, allegedly followed the victim into an alleyway, where they punched and shot him after having an argument.

The defendant faces a punishment of life suspending all but 25 years for attempted murder and 20 years suspending all but five for firearm possession.

Defense Attorney Derrick Hamlin asked for a three day trial, expected to be June 15-17.

Norman Ransom, 44 has several dates set for a case involving the alleged attempted murder of two sisters.

Ransom is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, illegal firearm and ammunition possession for shooting the sisters on Oct. 26, 2025 at the 2600 block of Garrett Avenue.

A Baltimore officer responded to a ShotSpotter alert where he found the sisters with gunshot wounds, according to court documents. They identified the defendant as the shooter.

Ransom was offered a plea deal for 25 years suspending all but 15 for assault.

The state provided DNA evidence and footage linking the defendant to the scene.

“I’m sitting here fighting a ghost,” Ransom said.

Defense Attorney Jerry Prince will file another motion to dismiss the case.

The motion to dismiss will be filled expediently as the defendant wants to attend his daughter’s graduation.

A motion hearing is set for April 9.
