Prosecution’s Unavailability Delays Trial For Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A man charged with attempted murder had his trial delayed because of the prosecutor said he would not be available during reception court on Oct. 14 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Antonio Williams, 36, is accused of a non-fatal shooting on the 4100 block of Amos Avenue on March 27. His charges include attempted first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault, and several firearms charges. He allegedly fought with a 26-year-old victim and shot him, after punching him in the face. The prosecutor said the altercation was caught on video.

During Williams’ bail review hearing on Sept. 20, his defense attorney, Shomari Taylor, said the prosecution was not adequately complying with disclosure rules and he had not received evidence in the case.

On Thursday, Williams rejected the prosecution’s plea offer of 30 years, suspending all but 20 years, for first-degree attempted murder, and five years without parole for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime, to be served concurrently.

Taylor told Judge Jennifer Schiffer that he had plenty of availability for a trial in the coming months; however, the prosecution was not available until April.

The trial was scheduled for April 26, 2022.
