Prosecution Testimony in Attempted Murder, Armed Carjacking Trial

The attempted murder trial of Eshawn Jones, 25, resumed on March 31 with testimony from authorities who investigated the crime

Jones is charged with shooting an 18-year-old man in the neck during a carjacking attempt that occurred over four years ago on the 100 block of N. Smallwood Street. The incident unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2022.

Before proceedings began, the State informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton of its intent to summon 11 witnesses to testify. Judge Tipton observed that time limitations might curtail some witness testimony.

As testimony began, jurors heard that the victim was shot while inside his car, leading him to crash the vehicle into a vacant building. Officers performed emergency aid and transported the victim to a trauma center for further treatment. He now suffers from paralysis in both arms.

Jones was taken into custody on March 1, 2025, over three years after the incident, following a tip from an alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Markia Vaughn.

Vaughn was arrested for a separate shooting in Cherry Hill last July and sentenced to 40 years of active incarceration last December. At the time, Vaughn had accepted a plea agreement and was awaiting sentencing for her involvement in the Smallwood Street incident.

As Jones’ trial continued, jurors learned that evidence recovered from the scene included swabs of the victim’s blood from the driver’s seat of his car.

The trial is expected to continue April 1 with further witness testimony.
