A trial got underway for a 38-year-old homicide defendant before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Troy K. Hill in Aug. 20.
Kenneth Mackay is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure for the murder of 38-year-old Daniel Taylor.
During the opening statement, the prosecutor revealed that Taylor died from both gunshot and stab wounds on Sept. 7, 2023.
The prosecution described how, after Taylor was shot, Mackay allegedly stood over Taylor and stabbed him. The incident was captured on surveillance video, and Mackay later allegedly admitted to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer that he was the person seen in the footage.
Mackay’s attorney, James Sweeting III, argued that Mackay didn’t have a gun, and the shooter remained unknown. Sweeting urged the jury to keep an open mind and pay attention to every piece of evidence.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, BPD officers found Taylor lying on the 1800 block of Presbury Street with multiple gunshot wounds. His autopsy revealed he was also stabbed in the back of the neck.
Testimony began Tuesday.
