The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) announced an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Oct. 26 in the Central District.
At approximately 4:44 p.m. the day of the incident, Central District officers responded to a call for an animal bite at a residence on the 900 block of St. Paul Street.
Upon arrival, officers spoke through the front door with the dog’s owner, who advised the dog was acting aggressive and had bitten him.
Officers attempted to instruct the owner, a 33-year-old male, to secure the dog in another room. The attempt was unsuccessful.
A short time later, the dog began attacking the owner inside the residence. The owner attempted to flee by exiting the residence, but the dog continued to attack him.
Two officers discharged their service weapons, fatally wounding the dog and striking the owner.
The male sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and several bite wounds. He was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
The BPD Special Investigations Response Team (SIRT) is investigating this incident.
The police department has activated its Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy.
