A police officer testified against a double homicide defendant on Oct. 24 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.
The defendant, 21-year-old Darius Daye, is accused of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime. He claims he was acting in self-defense.
The police officer got a call of a shooting on Jan. 19, 2024. When he went to the scene he saw one of the victims with a gunshot wound who was bleeding heavily.
According to Daye’s defense attorney Chris Purpura, Daye and two co-workers employed as mechanics were at an auto repair shop when three armed men came in. Daye was also a security guard, licensed to carry a gun.
One of the men approached Daye at gunpoint and allegedly shot him. Shortly after Daye allegedly took out his firearm and killed two of the three intruders whom Daye is accused of murdering, and left the scene.
The last armed man followed Daye outside, and Daye allegedly shot him, but the that suspect survived.
After the shooting Daye gave a statement to police. Initially, hey let him go, but after gathering more evidence, Daye was arrested two months later in March 2024.
Daye’s trial is being heard in front of Judge Althea M. Handy.
