Police Link Suspect Car to Shooting, Carjacking

The trial of Dalen Daqwon Randall, 24, continued Feb. 2 with evidence of a shooting and a carjacking.

Randall, who is represented by defense attorneys David Shapiro and Huds on Miller, is charged with attempted murder, assault and three firearm violations for allegedly shooting a man who stole his mother’s vehicle last summer.

On June 5, 2025, a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer responded to an eight-round ShotSpotter alert at the Carroll Motor Fuels gas station on the 2800 block of Edmonson Avenue, where he located seven shell casings – one less than the eight pinged by the alert. The shooting reportedly unfolded after Randall found the victim and his mother’s stolen car, a Honda Pilot, at the gas station.

Body-worn camera footage presented at trial revealed the officer had pulled the defendant over less than three weeks prior on the night of May 19, citing speeding and a faulty headlight on his gray Infiniti, which he had driven to the gas station. A detective also recognized the same Infiniti with its missing headlight from Baltimore CitiWatch camera footage captured the day of the incident.

A carjacking call shortly after the shooting led the officer to the residence Randall shared with his mother, just five minutes from the gas station. Upon arrival, the officer found the defendant’s mother speaking to other responders, along with her Honda Pilot, which had been driven back to the residence. Investigators found bullet holes on the Pilot’s front passenger window and rear passenger door, as well as an eighth shell casing located at the bottom of the vehicle’s windshield.

The victim of the shooting went to the hospital around 3 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the right arm and was uncooperative with law enforcement, according to a detective.

The trial is expected to conclude with closing statements will be given on Feb. 3.
