A 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in connection to the murder of Dante Barksdale, 46, in January.

A Baltimore Police press release states the Warrant Task Force and U.S. Marshalls arrested Baltimore resident Garrick Powell on May 20 at a house in the 400 block of North Ellwood Avenue.

Powell allegedly shot Barksdale, a member of the city’s violence prevention program Safe Streets, in the head in the 200 block of Douglas Court on Jan. 17, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Police said Powell was taken to the homicide section and “exercised his rights to remain silent.” Powell was then taken to central booking and charged with first-degree murder.

Powell is waiting to see a court commission.
