On Jan. 3, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin found a 23-year-old homicide defendant competent to stand trial.
Aamir Benton is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a handgun in a vehicle and having a handgun on his person in connection to the 2022 murder of Phillip Wallace.
Judge Rasin based her finding on a competency evaluation completed by Circuit Court Medical Services.
Benton was represented by Sharon Bogins Eberhart in Wednesday’s proceedings.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to Pimlico Elementary School on the 4800 block of Pimlico Road, where they located 31-year-old Wallace shot multiple times in his car. Police believe that Benton and another man were in the car with Wallace when they shot him on June 30, 2022.
