A Baltimore man accused of attempted murder appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court on Aug. 28 to review a pending motion to transfer his case to juvenile court.

Keon Brooks, 19, is charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime and reckless endangerment, as well as one count each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault in connection to a Nov. 25, 2024 shooting that occurred on the 2300 block of W. North Avenue. One victim sustained injuries from gunshots fired at their vehicle but survived.

The defendant appeared with his attorney, Justin Hollimon, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland ahead of an Aug. 29 status conference regarding the defense’s motion to transfer Brooks’ case to juvenile court. Brooks, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, is currently charged as an adult.

Brooks is expected to receive a date for his transfer hearing on Aug. 29. In anticipation of a prolonged wait for his day in court, Brooks waived his right to a speedy trial.

Judge Copeland told Brooks to return to her courtroom on Nov. 12 to schedule further proceedings.

On July 15, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones granted a motion for joinder so that Brooks could be tried alongside co-defendants Donte Mack and Justin Griggs despite objections from defense counsel. Mack and Griggs face identical charges to Brooks.

It is unclear how Brooks’ potential transfer will affect the joint trial. As of Aug. 28, the co-defendants are scheduled for trial before Judge Jones on Oct. 21.
