Pair Accused of Shooting at Teen Gets Trial Date

On Oct. 26, a pair of codefendants appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Melissa M. Phinn to hear the prosecution’s plea offer and schedule a trial date.

Theresa Taylor and Anthony Mason, Jr. are charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a loaded handgun on their persons, discharging a firearm in Baltimore City, having a handgun in a vehicle and disorderly conduct in connection to an April non-fatal shooting.

In reception court, Maureen O’Leary represented 35-year-old Mason and Lynn Peace stood in for 43-year-old Taylor’s attorney, James Sweeting III.

The prosecution offered Taylor life, suspending all but 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole and five years of supervised probation for two counts of attempted first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime. She would also be required to register as a gun offender, have no contact with the victim and complete the Abuser Intervention Program at the House of Ruth.

Mason’s offer was identical except for a slightly reduced prison sentence of life, suspending all but 15 years. Both defendants rejected the prosecution’s offer via their respective counsels.

Judge Phinn scheduled Mason and Taylor’s trial to begin on April 10, 2024.

According to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) press release, Mason and Taylor were arrested on May 10 and May 15 respectively. Police suspect they are responsible for shooting at a 16-year-old girl on the 400 block of Lyndhurst Street on April 23.
