Opening Statements Describe an Argument, Fatal Shooting

On July 21, opening statements were heard before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Catherine Chen in the Belair Road murder  of 36-year-old Keith Nicholson

The defendant, Coine Larose, 28 is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and discharging of firearms. Coine Laro

According to court documents, Larose and Nicholson allegedly got into a fight before the shooting. Several minutes later, a white SUV was seen following Nicholson with gunshots fired as he attempted to flee. The documents allege that the SUV then stopped in the 4300 block of Belair Road, where additional gunfire was heard and Nicholson was later found fatally shot.

During opening statements, the prosecution asked the jury to be patient citing that unlike in movies it takes time to work through evidence and testimony but insists that after all is said and done the jury will find good cause to pronounce the defendant guilty.

Defense attorney Michael Tomko, however, stressed that there is a lot of missing information the prosecution refuses to highlight. Further stating to the jury that there will be considerable gaps in the evidence as to who shot Nicholson.

Trial set to continue on July 22.
