Officers Upgrade Case to Homicide in Booth Street Shooting Investigation

On June 6, at approximately 6:23 p.m., officers were patrolling the 1300 block of Booth Street when officers witnessed a shooting.

Officers located a 21-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs in the unit block of North Carey Street. A second victim, 46-year-old Kimberly Benjamin, was located at the intersection of McHenry Street and South Carey Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Medics transported both victims to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Despite lifesaving measures, hospital staff pronounced Benjamin deceased on June 7.  

An unidentified male suspect was arrested at the intersection of McHenry Street and South Carey Street and is currently a possible person of interest.
