The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) released body-worn footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 12 in the Northern District.
According to the Office of the Maryland Attorney General (OAG)’s press release, officers with the BPD encountered an adult man, later identified as Jai Marc Howell, 26, in the 4600 block of York Road.
As the officers approached, Howell ran away, leading to pursuit, both by car and by foot. During this chase, Howell displayed a gun, and gunfire was exchanged. Howell was wounded in the exchange.
Officers administered emergency first aid and requested emergency medical services. Howell was transported to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
No officers were injured during this incident.

The footage was released in compliance with BPD and the Independent Investigations Division of the OAG. The OAG will be investigating this incident, as required by Maryland State Law to investigate all police-involved fatalities.
