The non-fatal shooting trial of Felix Dantzler, Jr. was postponed on Aug. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong. His defense attorney, Robert Cole, and the court agreed the delay would allow Dantzler to undergo treatment for schizophrenia.
Dantzler, 60, is charged with illegally discharging a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, reckless endangerment, and other related charges in connection to a Oct. 26, 2025 shooting which may have been delusional on the 3000 block of Westwood Avenue in the northwestern part of the city.
According to charging documents, police responded to the scene just after 3am, following a 911 call and the caller hung up. A witness, who was Dantzler’s ex-girlfriend, said that Dantzler had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was hallucinating. He allegedly fired a gun after accusing her of hiding another man in the apartment.
Police reportedly recovered an AR-15 pistol from the bedroom with a round in the chamber and a loaded high-capacity magazine. A spent .223-caliber Remington casing was found on the floor next to the bed.
Dantzler, a former member of the D.C. The National Guard, is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior felony conviction in Montgomery County.
Dantzler’s trial is scheduled to resume Nov. 5.
