Non-Fatal Shooting

A defendant who is charged in three felony cases at the Baltimore City Circuit Court is scheduled for trial in May of 2022.
In his non-fatal shooting case, Khalil Clark is charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, carrying or wearing a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of ammo and discharging a firearm. The charges resulted from an incident on July 1, 2020, according to the Maryland Judiciary website. Clark, 20, is also charged in two other cases for weapons possession and drug trafficking and distribution.
On Dec. 13, the prosecution requested a postponement of the case because the prosecutor who was over the case took an emergency medical leave and would not be back until 2022.
However, the defendant, who was apprehended in August of 2020, decided to maintain his Hicks date, which is a policy under Maryland law that requires a case to be tried within 180 days after it is presented in court.
Clark told Judge Melissa Copeland that he didn’t want the postponement even though one of his defense attorneys was physically unable to try the case before May.
Clark also rejected a plea offer from the prosecution Monday 5 years with parole for all three cases.
Clark is scheduled to return to reception court on May 11, 2022.
