After a non-fatal shooting defendant decided to reject a plea offer on Sept. 26, his defense counsel said she planned on filing a competency evaluation on behalf of her client before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
The 29-year-old defendant is charged with possession of a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction, reckless endangerment, discharging firearms, illegal possession of ammo, and two counts of traffic violation in connection to an incident on Jan. 15.
The defendant and his defense attorney, Karyn Meriwether, rejected a plea of 6 years in prison for possession of a rifle/shotgun with a felony conviction.
Meriwether also cited her client’s past mental health issues.
Meriwether said she planned on filing for the evaluation last week but, when she went to see her client on Friday, he was having behavioral problems therefore she could not file the evaluation.
The defendant’s trial has been scheduled for Dec. 2.
