The defendant in a non-fatal shooting case, Lonzo Lucas, accepted probation before judgment on Feb. 5. The offer came from Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller in lieu of accepting a plea deal offered by the prosecution.

Lucas, 29, is charged with firearm use in a felony violent crime, first- and second-degree assault, carrying a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm within Baltimore City in connection to an incident in May of last year. He is represented by defense attorney Robert D. Cole, Jr.

The maximum penalty for the wearing, carrying or transportation of a handgun is three years. The prosecutor’s offer included three years suspending all but time served.

Lucas accepted Judge Geller’s offer of probation before judgment and pleaded guilty to the charge of carrying a handgun. Lucas will serve three years of supervised probation, and the charge will be removed from his record.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on May 12, 2023, Lucas allegedly arrived at the victim’s apartment on the 3000 block of Fordleigh Road.

The victim told police Lucas shot at her two or three times while she leaned outside her window. Investigators were unclear about the exact nature of the relationship between Lucas and the victim, but the shooting seemed domestically motivated. She sustained no injuries and was able to identify the handgun used in the crime.
