A defendant involved in a gas station shootout pleaded guilty during reception court at the Baltimore City Circuit Court on June 24.
Jerrod Allen has been incarcerated for two years in connection to a non-fatal shooting on June 22, 2019. According to the prosecution, video footage showed Allen, 30, approaching an occupied vehicle outside of a gas station with a handgun in his right hand. Allen and a man in the vehicle simultaneously exchanged gunfire, and both were hit by a bullet.
The prosecution offered Allen a maximum of 18 years for attempted second-degree murder and a maximum of 18 years, the first five without probation, for firearm use in a violent crime.
Defense attorney Andrea Jaskulsky accepted the deal on behalf of her client, knowing that Judge Melissa K. Copeland could accept or lower the prosecution’s recommendation but could not increase the sentence past 18 years.
Judge Copeland sentenced Allen to 18 years for each charge. Under the deal, the two sentences will run concurrently. Allen must also register as a gun offender.
He had originally faced another count of attempted second-degree murder; 10 other weapons charges; two counts of attempted first-degree murder, affray, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault; and three counts of reckless endangerment.
