A 24-year-old non-fatal shooting defendant accepted a plea of three years probation on Dec. 10 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

The Baltimore resident was facing 18 firearm-related charges, including a charge for discharging firearms and two traffic violation charges.

During Friday’s reception court proceedings, the defendant accepted a plea of three years, suspending all but time served, and three years probation for having a loaded handgun in a vehicle. He must also register as a gun offender.

The defendant was represented by defense attorney Howard Cardin.

The prosecution informed Judge Melissa M. Phinn that around 5:22 p.m. on June 20, a Baltimore Police Department officer was on patrol and initiated a traffic stop on a blue Infiniti G36 on the 2700 block of Bel Air Road. The defendant did not have a license, the prosecutor said, and had an open warrant in Anne Arundel County, the details of which were not discussed on Friday.

During the traffic stop, the officer saw suspected marijuana and then searched the car and found a gun under the driver’s seat.

The prosecutor did not reveal what lead to the defendant’s charge of discharging firearms.

Judge Melissa M. Phinn approved the plea offer.
