The final postponement hearing for Gerald McEachern, 23, was held in reception court on April 29 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland. After a request for a trial delay was denied the previous day, McEachern returned to court seeking additional time to hire new representation.
McEachern discharged his public defender and is currently seeking private counsel due to prior disagreements. Judge Copeland stated that McEachern will be required to represent himself if he fails to secure defense counsel by the next court date.
The court emphasized that no further delays will be granted, as McEachern’s initial appearance occurred May 28, 2024, nearly a year ago.
McEachern’s five-day jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 22 before Judge Cynthia H. Jones.
