I really enjoyed my summer at Baltimore Witness, and appreciated the exposure to the criminal justice process this opportunity provided me. Attending court, reflecting on what happened, and then translating my insight into digestible articles was a great experience. Journalistic writing was something entirely new to me, and I felt my skills improve week by week.
I found adapting to a journalistic style to be the biggest challenge I encountered, but over time, I got the necessary reps in to develop my skills. I know this will have major payoffs for me in the future; the ability to modify and tailor a message to better suit my target audience is a vital dimension of professional communication, regardless of the career path I ultimately pursue.
I also loved meeting the staff at Baltimore Witness, and appreciate the guidance more senior team members offered. The connections I made with my fellow interns were also a highlight – I loved hanging out with and getting to know them!
Overall, I’m super grateful to have had the opportunity to intern at Baltimore Witness this summer.
