A motion’s hearing to suppress a defense statement before Judge Robert Taylor Jr. was cancelled on Aug. 17 in the case against a Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder.
Steven Washington, 34, is charged with first-degree murder; conspiracy to first-degree murder and firearm use in a violent crime; attempted first-degree murder; and having a handgun on his person.
Washington is represented by defense attorney Josh Insley in connection to the incident on July 20, 2019.
Scheduled at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in courtroom 428 in the Mitchell Courthouse, a clerk informed Baltimore Witness that the hearing was cancelled after the scheduled time. Neither the clerk nor the Court Reporting Services office had any additional information.
Three family members were waiting for the hearing to begin outside the courtroom and said they were never informed by a clerk.
According to the Criminal Clerk’s Office, the motion’s hearing will not be rescheduled and the case will proceed to trial on Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. in courtroom 225 in the Cummings Courthouse. However, the Maryland Judiciary website currently has the trial scheduled in courtroom 215 but does not specify which courthouse.
