Jason Williams, 37, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro for a hearing on Aug. 14 to represent himself at his homicide trial.
Williams faces a total of four charges, including first-degree murder, firearm use, possession of firearm with a disqualifying felony conviction, and having a handgun on his person.
Williams was charged in connection to a Nov. 3, 2024 shooting incident that left Solomon Wise, 58, dead on the steps of the 4200 block of Sheldon Avenue. Residue on the back of Wise’s neck indicated he was shot at close range.
Footage from area CitiWatch cameras captured an individual entering the location 25 minutes before the murder occurred, and walking away from Wise following a gunshot. Though Williams was identified on camera, no evidence was apparently recovered suggesting he shot Wise.
Williams, who reportedly confessed to being the man in the footage, claimed police singled him out as the sole suspect.
“If you see me in a video with a gun, or if you see me in a video killing Mr. Wise, then it’s your duty to find me guilty,” Williams told the jury.
Williams also alleged the prosecution was exaggerating his case by implying more than one shot was fired during the shooting.
