A man accused of murder in 1976 was ordered to appear for a status check by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin again on Aug. 2.
On July 5, Judge Rasin found Gold Leroy Bass Jr.’s compliance with his treatment to be satisfactory. Stand-in defense attorney Sharon Boggins Eberhart was in agreement.
Bass, 73, had his case reopened on Jan. 10, 2017, for a retrial. He was found incompetent to stand trial on May 10.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Bass is charged with first-degree murder and using a handgun in a crime of violence in connection to a Dec. 21, 1973 incident.
According to previous reporting by Baltimore Witness, Bass shot is accused of fatally shooting Harry McGee and Nathaniel Sheppard during a drug exchange outside the Wakefield Apartment Complex on the 4900 block of Challedon Road.
The 73-year-old defendant was ordered to return to mental health court on Aug. 2.
