Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller granted shooting defendant Antonio Nance, 43, a postponement on March 24 after the prosecutor resigned from the case creating a need for a replacement.
Nance is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and three gun offenses in connection to an Aug. 12, 2025 shooting that occurred around 11:20 a.m. on the 2700 block of W. Franklin Street.
According to charging documents, the incident began when a verbal dispute between a suspect, later identified as Nance, and a male victim escalated aboard a Maryland Transit Administration bus. Witnesses reported that at one point, the suspect pushed another passenger off the bus while telling him to “get off” and asking if he wanted to fight.
The argument continued, with both men exchanging threats. The victim was heard saying, “No, I shoot n*****s, I shoot,” while the suspect challenged him to step off the bus. Moments later, the suspect stood up and allegedly fired a gun inside the bus. Authorities say the victim ran off the bus but Nance chased him and fired several more shots while running around the bus. Despite multiple shots being fired, the victim was not struck.
When officers arrived, the victim repeatedly told police that “nothing happened” and refused to cooperate, at one point claiming the weapon was only a toy gun. However, during a police interview, Nance allegedly admitted he fired the gun in an attempt to scare the victim after believing the latter was armed. He told officers he fired about five rounds and discarded the weapon in a nearby drain.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage, which confirmed that multiple shots were fired during the incident. Shortly after, Nance was located at a nearby car wash and taken into custody.
Defense attorney Augustine Okeke agreed with the state’s request to postpone the trial. Nance’s trial is now set to proceed June 16 before Judge Yolanda A. Tanner.
