A state’s attorney for the department of social services motioned to unseal records from homicide defendant Shakira Shaw’s case file on June 29, after the case has been in mental health court since October 2020.

Shaw, 25, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death for the December 2019 death of her 1-year-old child, Kaleb Shaw.

Judge Dana Middleton granted the motion.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Kaleb was found unresponsive in their home on Dec. 28, 2019, by medics. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he died.

Shaw called police on Oct. 8, 2020, to confess to suffocating her 1-year-old son after he was originally concluded to have died from natural causes in 2019.

Shaw’s next hearing is scheduled on Sept. 8.
