A witness from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner described the gruesome nature of a stabbing homicide on the second day of 22-year-old Cahari Ferguson’s murder trial, May 28.
During opening arguments, meanwhile, the defense insisted the prosecution lacks sufficient evidence to incriminate Ferguson, 21, calling the their case hearsay.
Ferguson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing 21-year-old Sean Neal Malik Brown more than 20 times and leaving him in the 2700 block of North Longwood Street on May 21, 2023 near Hanlon Park. Investigators later recovered Brown’s decomposing body. Ferguson was denied bail late last January.
A specialist from the Office of the Medical Examiner testified about the 23 cut and stab wounds found on Brown’s heart, left lung, liver, diaphragm, and neck. His jugular veinn and carotid artery were also damaged in the attack. Brown’s death was ultimately ruled a homicide by sharp force injuries.
Ferguson’s co-defendant, 21-year-old Tyrell White, is set to plead guilty on June 25 to being an accessory after the fact in Brown’s murder. During a Jan. 23 hearing, White acknowledged he helped dispose of Brown’s backpack and credit card following the incident, and waived his right to a jury trial. Cellular analysis and cell site mapping placed White and Ferguson near the scene on the evening of the crime.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard is presiding over the trial, which is expected to continue into May 29.
