On Jan. 23, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled the trial of a 28-year-old attempted murder defendant.
Reginald Whitaker is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery, robbery, theft less than $100, having a loaded handgun on his person, four counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction, firing and discharging a gun and illegal possession of ammunition in connection to a June 27, 2023, incident.
Anne Marie Gering stood in for Whitaker’s attorney James Sweeting III, who was not present in the proceeding Tuesday.
The prosecutor offered Whitaker a life sentence for attempted first-degree murder and a concurrent five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Whitaker rejected the offer.
Though previous reporting indicated that the prosecution would be pursuing a plea offer to resolve all three of Whitaker’s cases at once, they did not describe this offer as that global resolution.
Gering did not have Sweeting’s schedule, so Judge Copeland scheduled Whitaker’s trial in this case alongside his other trials on June 4 before Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
