Man Pleads Guilty to East Baltimore Drive-By Shooting

A Baltimore man accepted a plea in connection to a February shooting in East Baltimore, admitting to his role in a drive-by attack that left one man injured.

Kenneth Jenkins, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime, and having a handgun in his vehicle during a hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kimberly C. McBride on Oct. 17. The prosecution also moved to amend one of the counts before Jenkins accepted the plea.

In exchange, Jenkins was offered a deferred sentence with a recommendation for home detention pending sentencing.

According to the prosecution, Jenkins conspired with co-defendant Marquist Peters, 24, and another man in a Feb. 4, 2025 shooting on the 900 block of N. Eden Street. Central District officers of the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded around 4:28 p.m. to reports of gunfire and found two .45-caliber shell casings at the scene. Shortly after, Johns Hopkins Hospital reported a walk-in shooting victim who had been shot once in the right arm.

CCTV footage captured a stolen Lexus SUV with Virginia tags driving northbound on Eden Street. The video showed the front seat passenger leaning out of the window and firing at a group of people on the sidewalk. The shooter was identified as Peters, while Jenkins was determined to be the driver.

Investigators recovered phone records and text messages linking Jenkins to the shooting. A search of his cell phone revealed messages discussing the incident, according to court documents. Jenkins was arrested on March 6 in connection to an unrelated case but later admitted to being in the vehicle during the shooting.

The maximum penalties for the counts are 25 years for first-degree assault, 20 years for firearm use in a violent crime, and five years for having a handgun in a vehicle.

Jenkins will remain on home detention until his Feb. 10, 2026 sentencing.
