A 36-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Dec. 11, pleading guilty to the murder of Santos Munoz-Hernandez last October.

Travis Rogers and his defense attorney, Jason Ott, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner for the plea proceedings. Rogers agreed to the prosecution’s offer of 40 years, suspending all but 30 years, for the lesser included charge of second-degree murder, a consecutive 15 years, suspending all but five years without parole, for firearm use in a felony or violent crime and a consecutive 15 years, suspending all but five years, for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

He will serve five years of supervised probation for each charge and is required to complete mental health treatment as well as drug and alcohol screening.

Around 8 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2022, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers found Munoz-Hernandez with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue, according to court documents. After reviewing surveillance footage of the area, cameras captured a man—later identified as Rogers—leaving a nearby residence as the victim stood on the sidewalk.

Rogers is seen shooting Munoz-Hernandez before running away. Detectives were able to identity the defendant as a suspect through witnesses and a photo array.
