A man accused of shooting a woman over $40 rejected a plea offer during reception court on Oct. 14 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Corey Pointer, 25, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and 11 other charges, including armed robbery, discharging firearms, and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

During Pointer’s bail review hearing on Sept. 17, prosecution said that the defendant and the victim were having an argument on the 500 block of Normandy Avenue on March 22 over $40 that she allegedly owed him. When the victim walked away, Pointer stole her backpack and then shots were fired.

On Thursday, Pointer’s defense attorney, Lawrence Rosenberg, said that he was having some issues with the disclosing evidence in this case. During the bail review hearing almost a month ago, Pointer’s previous defense attorney, Michael Tomko, told the prosecution that he had received a small amount of evidence.

The prosecution offered a plea of 30 years, suspending all but 20 years, for attempted first-degree murder and five years without parole for use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Pointer rejected the plea and a trial was set for Nov. 29.
