Man Accused of Shooting at His Brothers to Serve Remainder of Sentence on Home Detention

A 32-year-old Baltimore man accused of firing a shotgun at his brothers in 2018 will serve the remaining two years of his five-year sentence on home detention.

On April 17, Blake Singleton and his defense counsel, Augustine Okeke, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Ronald Silkworth for the defendant’s scheduled jury selection. Singleton was previously convicted of two counts of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony violent crime as well as one count of discharging firearms in December 2019.

He was sentenced to seven years, the first five years without parole, the following year, but granted an appeal in June 2022.

Okeke informed Baltimore Witness that counsel was able to resolve the case short of trial on Monday. Singleton was sentenced to 40 years, suspending all but five years, without parole for two counts of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony violent crime.

Okeke said the defendant has already served three years of his sentence, leaving him two years on home detention.

During a bail review last year, the prosecution said that Singleton was convicted of firing a shotgun at his two brothers who were sitting inside a vehicle on Oct. 20, 2018. Defense attorney Todd Oppenheim, who filed Singleton’s appeal, previously informed the court that one of the defendant’s brothers recanted his statement, while the other brother stood by the allegations.
